Beijing Shijingshan Sports Center

Along Jinguo Road on the west side of Beijing, the site holds a gymnasium, a hotel, and one of the oldest stadium in Beijing. The government aims to build a new fitness center on the last unbuilt narrow space. The main functions are a swimming pool, an ice ring, 3 basketball courts, 5 indoor football playgrounds, 6 tennis courts, and one sports school. Once the functional stacking was done, I took over the building to create a modern urban complex. I created 2 main slabs linked by a curtain of slim columns that come to unify the mass and give the building a correct proportion. The ground floor is then covered and pedestrian-friendly. I created an urban window with GKD mesh, breaking the scale of the facade and holding the vertical circulations.
