Nali Patio, once a buzzing hub of food and entertainment in Beijing, has lost its charm due to the revitalization and mandatory demolition of unauthorized buildings in the surrounding Sanlitun area. However, our party has a solution to breathe new life into this iconic spot. We plan to open up the building’s courtyard to the main street, creating a series of staircases that will lead visitors from the street to the different levels, thus enhancing the value of upper-level retails. By keeping the circulation outdoor, we ensure low management and more flexibility for tenants. The existing buildings serve as a foundation for our innovative design, with different volumes imbricating in each other, affirming the human scale of the complex. With the demolition of the West building, we guarantee a seamless and engaging connection with the central Sanlitun axis. But what truly sets our design apart is the striking public space we have created on the fourth floor. Like a lantern, this box-shaped space is a beacon that can be used for exhibitions or conferences. The face facing the courtyard can even be used as a screen, adding to the space’s versatility. Overall, our vision for Nali Patio will breathe new life into this iconic spot, making it a must-visit destination once again.
