In the beautiful town of Tongshan, situated near Nanjing City, there was a vision to develop a sports school that caters to both sports enthusiasts and professionals. The site, nestled amidst the mountains, has a canal running along its long dimension, almost in a North-South alignment. Our team utilized this natural feature and the North-South axis to create a stunning X-shaped central green area that houses the main public functions such as the library, activity center, and auditorium, along with entrances at the crossing point, right in the heart of the site.
The remaining four areas are dedicated to the four core functions of the school, namely the academic center, dormitories, sports center, and supporting facilities. The buildings’ facades are designed to ensure maximum natural ventilation and optimal utilization of orientation, thereby reducing the need for ventilation and heating while maintaining a modern yet simple look.
To unify the different clusters and to blend the campus into the site, a green canopy made of louvers and solar panels was created. The result is a campus that is both modern and lyrical, with a design that seamlessly integrates with nature.
In addition to the sports school, a dedicated site on the South-West, connected to the future city expansion, houses both a hotel and a medical center. This feature is added to provide comfort and convenience to the students’ families and the professionals under re-education programs.
