Gongan University Bus Stop

As I was tasked with designing a bus stop for a university, I realized that I wanted to create something more than just a traditional shelter structure. I wanted to design a place that would become an integral part of the students’ campus life – a space where they could meet, hang out, have lunch, work, and even play cards.
To achieve this, I decided to create a hexagonal structure instead of a typical longitudinal one. The hexagon is a centered shape that is excellent for fostering a sense of community. Moreover, it expands into the park with star branches that connect and play with the surrounding trees. The star shape originates from the central bench shape, allowing for multiple configurations for the group of students, such as sitting back to back, face to face, and side to side.
The sail-shaped columns that rise from the six corners of the hexagon are wrapped with membrane, supporting the glass roof with integrated lights. These columns create a cocoon feeling that plays with views and provides a sense of safety and enclosure. The overall effect is a space that is inviting and engaging, where students can gather and feel at home.
